The boys were in the mood to whip up some chocolate ice “cream” for dessert. We put on our thinking caps and got to work making a delicious (shh…and nutritious) homemade chocolate ice “cream.”
We got out the Vitamix, some bananas, almond milk, and cocoa powder. We always have frozen (peeled) bananas on hand for smoothies, ice “cream”, baked goods etc. Bananas are a great sweetener and they make the ice “cream” fantasticly smooth and “creamy”. We used Silk vanilla almond milk, which is my personal favorite as far as milks go. The boys added heaping teaspoons of cocoa powder and we let it rip. The result was so yummy!!!
After enjoying our first serving, we added some ice to chill the remains that were in the Vitamix canister. After sampling the experiment, I concluded that it tasted just like a Wendy’s Frosty, to which my kids questioned,
“What’s a Frosty?”
I explained, “A Frosty is a fast food milkshake that tastes just like this, but yours is SOOOO much better!”
- 2 c Silk vanilla almond milk, unsweetened
- 4 frozen bananas
- 3 T cocoa powder
Blend all ingredients in a high powered blender, such as a Vitamix. You can create your own favorite mixture by adding additional ingredients, such as coconut, peanuts, almonds, walnuts, or peanut butter. You may also like to add ice for a more “Frosty” consistency. You can enjoy it plain, or add toppings such as granola, cacao nibs, shredded coconut, or chopped nuts. So easy. So delicious!!!
